Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi yesterday hailed the UAE-Israel normalisation deal and congratulated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for reaching it, Israeli media reported.

During a telephone call with Netanyahu, Al-Sisi said Cairo supports any measure that reinforces peace and stability in the region.

According to the Israeli news website Wallah, Al-Sisi also stressed on the importance of preserving Palestinian rights, urged Netanyahu to work on establishing a Palestinian state that “affords security” to Israel.

In addition, he told Netanyahu that Cairo rejects the Israeli plans to annex swathes of the occupied West Bank and called for resuming talks with the Palestinians.

“The Israelis and Palestinians should remain obligated to the ceasefire in Gaza,” he added, stressing that Egypt would continue exerting efforts to deescalate the tensions in the area.
