Israel police crack down on demonstrations supporting Palestine prisoners

Israeli occupation police on Friday cracked down on Arab demonstrators who took to the streets in support of Palestinian prisoners, Arab48 reported.

Arab residents in Haifa and Umm Al-Fahm organised two separate demonstrations to support the prisoners and condemn the Israeli aggression against them.

Israeli police attacked one of the demonstrators and detained him in Umm Al-Fahm. He was later released.

The demonstrators raised placards reading:

Freedom for freedom prisoners. Freedom for heroes. All support for our heroes behind Israeli bars.

Activists also reported Israeli police aggression at the demonstration organised in Haifa and detained Abdullah Bodeer, who was later released after he was beaten.

At both demonstrations, the demonstrators raised the Palestinian flag.

Lawyer and activist Odai Mansour said: “The message of the demonstrations is showing support for the prisoners inside the Israeli jails, where they suffer harsh conditions.”

Activist from Umm Al-Fahm Sirin Jabarin asserted: “Our action is against the occupation, Zionism and suppression. The issue of the prisoners woke us up again.”

In previous days, following the escape of six prisoners from the high-security Israeli prison of Gilboa, the Israel Prison Service took tight punishing measures against the prisoners across all Israeli prisons.

Rejecting Israeli aggression, the prisoners burnt several cells and clashed with the Israeli forces guarding the prisons.

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation forces set up hundreds of checkpoints across the occupied West Bank in order to prevent the relocation of the escaped prisoners to the occupied territories.

On Friday evening and Saturday morning, the Israeli occupation found and rearrested four of the escaped prisoners in two separate areas in Israel. The search for the remaining two is still ongoing.
