Tunisia’s tourism revenues reached $2.3 billion by 20 December, an increase of 7.8 per cent compared to the same period last year, the German Press Agency (DPA) reported.
Tunisia hopes to achieve record revenues for the sector this year, with more than ten million tourists expected to visit during 2024.
The sector’s revenues have boosted foreign currency reserves, with central bank data revealing reserves of 25 billion Tunisian dinars ($8 billion), equivalent to 115 days of imports.
In 2023, Tunisia experienced its lowest economic growth in a decade, save for the first pandemic year of 2020, according to the Carnegie Middle East Centre.
