While the alleged bastions of human rights and equality sit idly by and watch Palestinians in Gaza burn, the Global South has come together against oppression. In December 2023, South Africa launched a case against Israel at the UN's International Court of Justice (ICJ) accusing the occupation state of committing genocide in its military operation in Gaza. It later called on the ICJ to demand Israel stop its military campaign in Gaza's southernmost city of Rafah, where over one million Palestinians had been forced to flee as a result of Israel's bombing campaign and evacuation orders.
Colombia severed diplomatic relations with Israel. “If Palestine dies, humanity dies,” Colombian President Gustavo Petro said during a May Day rally in which he called Israel’s military campaign in Gaza “genocidal.”
