Egyptian army spokesman denies World Tribune story

February 17, 2014 at 1:49 am

Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Ali, the Egyptian army official spokesman, denied the veracity of a report posted on the website of the American newspaper, World Tribune. In an item published on Monday the newspaper claimed “The Egyptian Army has disobeyed orders by President Mohammed Morsi to employ live fire against civilian rioters.”

The army spokesman said that such facts were not mentioned in the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, and that they were simply far-fetched rumours and speculations.

He called on all media sources to take into consideration the accuracy of the information that they circulate and avoid misrepresentations and rumours, which may negatively affect the country’s security.
