The Municipality of Gaza has begun pumping untreated sewage onto Gaza’s coast as a result of the continuing Israeli blockade, and the ever worsening fuel shortages that threaten the sector.

Certain types of fuel are no longer being provided to the Gaza Strip and as such, the Municipality’s purification plant has stopped functioning threatening an environmental disaster.  According to information released by the Municipality during a recent press conference, the lack of fuel has also led to the accumulation of tonnes of garbage as waste disposal trucks are unable to transport rubbish to dumping grounds in the east of the city.

The Municipality has appealed to government institutions and agencies for urgent action in order to solve this problem which is causing substantial damage to the environment as well as to the citizens of the Gaza Strip.
