Israel destroyed dozens of EU-funded development projects across the occupied West Bank in 2011. The details of the extent of Israeli destruction have been given in a report issued by non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA), which monitored the investigation made by local and international NGOs, the Israeli occupation authorities demolished 620 buildings in the occupied West Bank in 2011. Sixty-two of those were built with funds from the European Union; almost all were part of the local infrastructure in Area C, which is subject to Israeli security and civilian control.
The Israeli occupation army claimed that it was “forced” to issue the demolition orders “because the construction was carried out without obtaining the necessary permits from the Israeli authorities”.
