February 17, 2014 at 11:15 pm

The head of the Palestinian National Council, Saleem Al-Zanoun, has said that the follow-up committee for the activation of the Palestine Liberation Organization held an extensive meeting on Sunday, January 15, at the headquarter of the Council Presidency in Amman, Jordan. In a press statement, Mr. Al-Zanoun said that the meeting included participants from all of the Palestinian factions which signed the reconciliation agreement in May 2011 in Cairo, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

The PNC head stressed that the meeting was to begin the translation and implementation of the reconciliation agreement. He added that it took place in parallel with discussions held by other committees as resolved by the PLO activation committee in Egypt last month. Ways to activate the PLO and restructure the PNC were on the agenda, including the provision of electoral participation by Palestinians in the occupied territories and the diaspora.

The outcomes of the meeting will be fed back to the PLO executive, the PNC chairman and the general secretaries of Palestinian factions on 2nd February.
