U.S to send Egypt F16 Fighter Jets despite Israeli opposition

February 17, 2014 at 1:50 am

On Thursday morning, Israel’s Channel 7 website reported that the US will hand over four advanced model F16 fighter jets to the new Egyptian regime as part of a deal between Egypt and the US.

The channel also pointed out that the agreement had been signed during the reign of former Egyptian president, Hosni Mubarak, and includes delivery of 16 fighter jets in all. Some of these were delivered 2 years ago, and 4 more will be sent in the next few weeks.

The website stressed that the jets would be handed over despite Israeli protests and opposition from the U.S Senate. Israel has called on members of the U.S Congress who support it to stall the administration’s decision.

However, it appears that such pressure has so far been futile.
