Adham Abu Musa Salamia, media spokesman for Gaza’s ambulance and emergency services’ supreme committee, has said that the death toll as a result of Israeli aggression over the last ten days has reached 14 civilians including 5 children. There have also been an estimated 48 other casualties, including 6 children and 6 women.

Salamia said “It is quite clear the Israeli occupation has focussed its recent aggression on the targeting of civilians and particularly children” indicating that this constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law and a war crime.

Ambulance crews from the Health Ministry and the Red Cross, the civil defence and the medical services are all at the highest level of alert in readiness should forces of the occupation escalate their aggression against the Gaza Strip.

The Zionist Occupation targeted the besieged Gaza Strip in its recent aggression which began on 16 March 2011 through to 26 March, with more than 30 air raids against civilian targets and 85 artillery shells being fired.

Similarly, forces of the Zionist occupation have mounted 14 limited incursions and fired in the vicinity of fisherman on 10 occasions.

The aggression has also affected a large number of facilities belonging to the Palestinian government and to Palestinian citizens in the Gaza Strip. Most significant of these is the Eastern Star Olive Oil Plant, the Gulf Clinic in Tawam, a metal works, a car framework shop and a goods store in Khan Younis.
