OIC condemns Israel's killing of Nakba demonstrators

February 20, 2014 at 3:33 pm

The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has condemned the Israeli attacks on the peaceful protests held in commemoration of the Palestinian Nakba – Catastrophe. The protests took place in Palestine, the village of Maroun Al Ras in southern Lebanon, and along the borders of the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. Several people were killed by the Israelis.

In a press statement from Ihsanoglu published by the Organisation’s media department yesterday [17.05.2011], he affirmed that the peaceful demonstrations were a reminder of the injustice that the Palestinian people had suffered for more than 63 years.

Ihsanoglu blamed Israel for the deterioration in the situation confirming that the attack against the unarmed civilian demonstrators constituted a serious violation of international law, particularly given that the attacks had occurred within Palestinian, Lebanese and Syrian territory. The Secretary General called on the international community to prevent Israel from dragging the region into a new war, to force it to respect international law and to end its violations.
