Likud MP: Obama has lost his position as an honest mediator in negotiations with Palestinians

An Israeli Minister and member of Likud party has seriously attacked the American President, Barack Obama, in the wake of what they saw as pressure from Washington on Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to freeze of the settlement activity in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

The Likudi member, Danny Danon, expressed his belief that the U.S. President, Barack Obama, “has lost his position as an honest mediator with the Palestinians.”

Danon’s statement came during a demand to convene a meeting of the “Likud” party centre to “address the government’s decision to freeze the construction of settlements.” In a radio interview, Danon asked the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to explain to the American President Obama that, “there is no difference between Jerusalem and the settlement of Ariel” (the largest Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank), as he put it.

The Likudi Minister, Limor Livnat, who launched another strong attack against the current U.S. administration, said: “we encountered a radical and shocking American administration headed by Barack Obama that Benjamin Netanyahu suffers a lot from.”

“I realize that Netanyahu is in trouble because of the severe American pressures exerted on him. It is not easy to stand up against the U.S. President and thus the state of Israel becomes increasingly vulnerable to campaigns of defamation and slander,” Livnat added.
