Al-Sisi reshuffles army commanders

April 12, 2014 at 11:32 am

Egypt’s Defence Minister Field Marshal Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi yesterday reshuffled the commanders of the Egyptian army shortly before his expected resignation to run for Egypt’s presidency.

Al-Sisi replaced Major General Ahmed Wasfy with Major General Mohammed Al-Shahat as commander of the Second Army. Wasfy was appointed head of training for the armed forces.

Major General Mustafa Al-Sharif was appointed assistant defence minister and Major General Mohammed Arafat who served as commander of the Military Southern Zone to chief of the Army Inspection Authority.

Military experts believe that similar changes will take place among the Egyptian armed forces ranks during the coming days ahead of Al-Sisi’s formal resignation to run for president.

Sources pointed out that Al-Sisi held several meetings with the Military Council to discuss the reshuffle.
