Fatah leader Azzam Al-Ahmad arrived in Gaza yesterday and conducted an urgent meeting with Fatah and then moved in the evening to the Commodore Hotel where meetings were held to discuss the negotiation agreement, which attendees classed as the final ones.
The meetings included the Hamas delegation, headed by Mousa Abu Marzouk and the Fatah delegation headed by Azzam Al-Ahmad, responsible for the agreement between the parties.
A further meeting was held today which concluded with a press conference where the following were highlighted:
- President Mahmoud Abbas will announce a national unity government on Thursday
- The Rafah border will be opened after the formation of the government and communication with Egypt will commence
- Each party will elect people to enable President Abbas to decide and select the government
- Agreement on Rami Alhamdullah to head the government
- Abu Marzouk said: “This moment is a positive one and within a day at most the government will be announced and will end divisions and open a new page in history for the nation.”
- Abbas indicated he will visit Gaza with a delegation of Palestinian leaders from the executive committee.
