Israeli soldiers call for killing Arabs

Two days after the bodies of the three kidnapped Israeli settlers were found in Hebron, Israelis and Israeli social and popular media continue to incite hatred against Arabs and promote revenge attacks and killings.

The past few days have seen the spread of photos of Israeli soldiers urging the government and the Israeli army’s commanders to allow them to “kill Arabs”.

Soldiers posted selfies as well as photos of army uniforms and weapons with captions including “revenge”, “What we want is revenge”, and “Let us wipe them out”.

Israeli security apparatuses had warned against revenge acts by Jewish extremists before a number of settlers kidnapped and killed Palestinian teenager Mohamed Abu Khdair – not to mention failed attempts to kidnap Palestinian children.

Social media sites were full of racist photos and remarks such as “death to Arabs” and others calling for revenge. Fascist Israeli figure Baruch Marzel posted remarks calling for the use of force to avoid the occurrence of similar incidents.

Michael Ben-Ari posted his photo with a sign reading “transferring our pain to our brutal enemy”.

Shortly after the bodies of the three kidnapped settlers were found, a page was launched on Facebook under the name “revenge on Arabs”. More than 3,000 Facebook users joined the group in a short space of time. The page has calls for revenge and for the death penalty for Palestinian resistance fighters. The page also speaks about Arabs in general and calls for them not to be offered jobs.

A hashtag appeared on twitter calling for revenge and claiming that the killing of the settlers “the straw that broke the camel’s back”.

Yoaav Eliasi posted banners with pro-revenge remarks such as “I want death”, “I want Palestinian mothers to weep”, “I want orphaned children”, and “I want widows”.

He addressed Knesset members saying that they fear for their seats and they are afraid of Arab Minister of the Knesset Hanin Zoabi. “The people of Israel do not want words or promises. They do not want the bombing of warehouses and the demolition of houses. We want revenge.”

He called for attacking Zoabi, refraining from offering her any services anywhere and boycotting her completely.

Another Israeli posted a sign which said that it is about time that Palestinian families too were punished so that every Palestinian would know that his family members, wife and children are subject to punishment, his home would be demolished, and his family would be imprisoned.

No Palestinian group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping and murder of the settlers; however, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he blamed Hamas and called for them to “pay” for what they had done.
