Palestinian Authority (PA) security services attempted to disperse demonstrations last night in several cities in the occupied West Bank, clashing with the demonstrators and wounding 15, Anadolu news agency reported.

The demonstrations in the cities of Ramallah and Nablus were organised in solidarity with the Gaza Strip after Israeli occupation forces carried out on Sunday two of the worst massacres in recent Palestinian history.

The biggest massacre took place in the Shajaiya neighbourhood in the east of Gaza City, which is normally home to more than 100,000 Palestinians. The Israeli aerial assault killed at least 66 Palestinians, including civilians just walking in the streets. The other attack took place in Bani-Suhaila, south of the Gaza Strip where Israeli warplanes targeted a family in a four story residential building, killing 27 and wounding scores more. Several others are still missing.

Witnesses told Anadolu that demonstrators in Ramallah were heading towards the Israeli settlement of Beit El in the east of the city when PA security services intercepted them. That led to severe clashes. Security forces fired teargas and rubber bullets at demonstrators, causing five injuries.

Meanwhile in Nablus, in the north of the occupied West Bank, hundreds took part in another gathering called for by Hamas. Clashes erupted with PA security services after they attempted to disperse the demonstration. Security services again used teargas canisters and fired rubber bullets, wounding a number of the demonstrators.

Deputy Secretary General of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine Qais Abdul-Kareem denounced the PA’s acts against the demonstrators. “The acts carried out by the PA security services in Ramallah and Nablus and other cities in West Bank are condemned,” he said in a statement.

He called for an “immediate stop” to such actions, demanding for security services not to interfere in future solidarity demonstrations.

Israeli occupation forces have been carrying out a massive and relentless assault against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip for almost two weeks now. The latest official number of Palestinians killed is 508, including 112 children, 41 women and 25 elderly. The number of wounded is 3,150, including 904 children, 533 women and 25 elderly.

In addition, Israeli has so far committed mass killings against 32 families, the latest being the aforementioned Abu-Jamei family.
