Iran reports increase in foreign commercial ships arriving in its ports

Iran has witnessed a steady increase in foreign commercial ships arriving in its ports after Western countries eased sanctions on Tehran, Anadolu news agency reported.

Iran’s news agency, IRNA quoted the Iranian Deputy Chief of Hormozgan Port, Mohammed Ali Saidybur as saying that “Singapore’s Kota Lawa ship has docked in the port of Bandar Abbas, loaded with goods”, without giving details about the nature of the goods, adding that “the company which owns the ship is looking for new markets, and wants to invest in Iran”.

After Western countries eased sanctions on Tehran; the first merchant ship docked in the ports of Iran on 22 July, followed by a second ship on 15 August.

The P5+1 group which includes the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council namely United States, Britain, France, Russia, and China as well as Germany eased sanction on Iran under an interim agreement reached on 24 November, 2013, provided that Iran suspends some of its sensitive nuclear activities.

The agreement was scheduled to end on 20 July but that deadline was extended until 24 November in light of the ongoing negotiations aimed at a comprehensive agreement.
