Arabism Egypt Party calls for parliamentary elections to be halted

December 22, 2014 at 4:03 pm

The Arabism Egypt Party appealed to the State Council to halt the upcoming parliamentary elections to enable the party to partake in it, almesryoon news site reported.

The party’s deputy co-founders Sami Hafez Anan, the former Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces until August 2012, demanded the next parliamentary elections be postponed until a final decision has been made about his party’s establishment.

The political parties’ affairs committee objected to the establishment of the Arabism Egypt Party because the party did not submit all the required documents including details of its organisational and financial structure.

Anan pointed out that postponing a decision about his party’s establishment has caused him and the party’s co-founders serious damage and prevented him from running in the upcoming elections.

The Administrative Court set January 20 as the date to consider Anan’s appeal.
