Egyptian district cancels Christmas celebrations after 2 policemen killed

The Diocese of the Coptic Orthodox and Catholics in Minya cancelled the Christmas celebrations and decided to only perform prayers and rituals following the killing of two policemen who were guarding one of the governorate’s churches.

According to a press release which was sent to the Anadolu Agency yesterday, the Diocese of the Coptic Orthodox and Catholics in Minya decided to “cancel of the celebration of Christmas while only performing the prayers and religious rituals to mourn the death of the two policemen who were killed at the hands of the black, treacherous terrorism at dawn, while on duty in front of one of the churches in Minya.”

The church demanded “the security agencies to quickly arrest the culprits and perpetrators of this brutal incident and determine their identity.”

The statement pointed out that “the Egyptian blood of both Copts and Muslims has been mixed for decades, and the hand of terrorism will not divide them as they are ready to face the evil forces anywhere and at any time.”

Earlier in the morning, masked gunmen fired live bullets at two policemen: First Sergeant Mohammed Abu Zaid and assistant police officer Eid Fahim.

The source continued, “The gunmen were able to flee after the shooting.”
