Egyptian fishermen who were lost at sea return home

January 9, 2015 at 12:49 pm

Some 300 Egyptian fishermen who were thought to be missing at sea after escaping the conflict in Libya arrived in their hometown of Kafr El-Sheikh today, Youm7 reported.

The fishermen, who were on board of 10 boats sailed from Misrata’s sea port on the Mediterranean on Wednesday, escaped from armed clashes between the Libyan army and rival militia groups.

Ahmad Nassar, chief of the fishermen syndicate in Kafr El-Sheikh, said: “The 300 fishermen fleeing from the hell fire in Libya returned to their homes on Friday morning. Their families greeted them with cheers of joy after they had almost lost hope that they would return due to the terrible weather conditions and the lack of communication since they left Misrata aboard 10 boats.”

He added that Egypt did everything it could to locate the fishermen. High winds and waves have battered Egypt over the past four days.
