The Egyptian party, Strong Egypt, has refused an initiative proposed by Egyptian youths based in Germany to solve the political situation in Egypt, Al-Mesryoon newspaper reported.
According to the newspaper, the youths who proposed the initiative said it aims to provide a solution to the ongoing political crisis through the unification of all the revolutionary parties inside and outside Egypt. This collaborative initiative has been dubbed: “We are the solution.”
The initiative involves a roadmap for political change, including the formation of a government, the choosing of governors, the setting up of a human rights council and the forming of a committee to modify the existing 2012 Constitution.
Strong Egypt said in a statement issued on Monday that it would not respond to the initiative because it is coming from abroad, regardless of its content.
According to the leader of the party, Abdul-Moneim Abul-Fotouh, an ex-Muslim Brotherhood leader and presidential candidate, this position is not meant to “underestimate” the patriotism and political entrepreneurialism of Egyptians living abroad.
“We evaluate and understand the reasons why they left the country living under an authority that does not respect its opposition, harasses them and bans political activities inside Egypt,” the statement said.
“Strong Egypt chooses to practice partisan and political activities inside the country; considering political action from abroad is not appropriate in the current political situation.”
