There is no need for Turkey to participate in imposing sanctions on Moscow, the country’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said yesterday.
In an exclusive statement to the German weekly newspaper Die Zeit, Cavusoglu pointed out that his country had declared from the beginning that it would not participate in imposing sanctions on Russia, adding that Turkey has a new relationship with both Russia and Ukraine; in addition to the fact that Russia is an important trade partner.
Cavusoglu added: “Can Germany and other European countries waive the Russian gas supplies? Let’s be realistic, every country wants to protect its interests. In short, we did not see the need to participate in these sanctions. “
