The Moroccan agency responsible for drilling for oil and gas announced a gas discovery at a depth of 1,263 metres to the west of the country.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Office of Hydrocarbons and Mining (ONHYM) said production at the well where gas was discovered will start in June. Excavations in the well began in June last year.

ONHYM reported that the gas flow rate reached 140,000 cubic metres per day.

Abdelkader Aamara, Moroccan minister of energy, mines, water and the environment, told the Anadolu Agency last September that Morocco is about to reach a discovery of significant oil reserves in the next two years, stressing that the process of drilling 29 petroleum wells will start in 2015, and that 2016 will see the drilling of the largest number of wells.
