Opposition says ISIS controls 80 percent of Syria's oil

A map prepared by the opposition Syrian interim government showed that ISIS now controls around 80 percent of Syria’s oil and natural gas, while the Assad regime is in control of only eight percent.

Syrian Kurdish groups also controlled around 12 percent of the oil and natural gas fields, mostly in the northern part of the country.

The map was published by the Geographic Information office of the interim Communication, Transport and Industry Ministry and prepared in coordination with the interim Ministry of Energy, Electricity and Oil.

ISIS recently seized control of a number of oil and gas fields in central Syria and is also in control of the country’s largest oil and gas wells in the eastern province of Deir Ez-Zor.
