UN envoy to meet representatives of ousted Yemeni president, Houthis in Muscat

United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed called on Friday delegations from the Houthis and the supporters of the former Yemeni president for a meeting in Muscat to discuss a political solution for the crisis, Anadolu reported.

An official source, who remained anonymous, told Anadolu that the Houthi delegation to arrive in Muscat on board of an Omani aircraft. Later on, the source said, supporters of the ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh to join them.

Earlier, the UN envoy has announced the agreement of all Yemeni sides to a political deal that ends the war started four months ago.

The source revealed to Anadolu that the UN envoy had a 7-point initiative, discussed with the Head of the Arab League Nabil al-Arabi. Senior officials in Saleh’s party accepted it.

The most prominent articles of this initiative are the urgent and immediate agreement on a ceasefire accepting certain mechanisms to monitor it ceasefire based on the resolution 2216.

In addition, the initiative included facilitation of the work of humanitarian aid organisations and cooperation with the UN regarding monitoring the situation.

All fighting forces have to withdraw from touch points and also taking the necessary measures for fighting terror were included in the initiative.
