sThe former head of the Arab League Amr Moussa may be leaving the political arena because the current authority has not given him a position, Almesryoon.com reported yesterday.

Moussa, the head of the Committee of 50 which was assigned to set up the Egyptian Constitution after the military coup and the founder of the Congress Party, said Egyptian parties are divided and the efforts to unite them have failed several times.

Almesryoon.com reported Ahmed Abu-Sinah, the head of the Union of Youth in the Congress Party, saying: “Abstention of the party’s founder from taking part in any political alliance is a result of the political instability in the country. He announced this several times.”

However, he said: “When he is needed, Moussa will not delay serving the country whether in a political position or not if he is needed. His main goal is to support the state and its regimes.”

Information Advisor in Moussa’s office Yara Khalaf told Almesryoon.com that he left the political arena several months ago, at the end of 2014.

She said that he stressed he would not return and take part in any of the political processes and he would never run for any future elections.

According to Khalaf, Moussa is always “optimistic” that Egypt is going to move in the right direction and achieve everything that was announced in the roadmap. She said he is hopeful that the parliamentary elections would be held and all Egyptian institutions will operate.

Moussa ran in the 2012 presidential elections receiving 10 per cent of the votes. He was a supporter of the military coup which toppled the first freely elected President Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
