Fatah: Fayyad playing ‘suspicious’ role in Gaza

December 3, 2015 at 10:42 am

Fatah yesterday accused former Palestinian Authority (PA) Prime Minister Salam Fayyad of playing a “suspicious role” and called on him to “remain silent forever” after he visited the Gaza Strip, the Safa news agency reported.

Fatah spokesman in the West Bank Osama al-Qawasmeh said: “Fayyad represents nothing in Palestinian society. He does not have a national or professional history to give advice and guidance to anyone.”

On Facebook Al-Qawasmeh wrote: “Fayyad delivered remarks classified as political hypocrisy as he is currently looking for a role for himself. We know his role very well, which comes in line with Israel which is targeting [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas.”

Al-Qawasmeh said that Fayyad wanted to show that he is the “saviour” of the Palestinians during his visit to the Gaza Strip, thinking he would be able to “deceive” the Palestinian people who rejected him due to his “failed” economic policies when he was in office.

Meanwhile, Hamas said that Fayyad visited Gaza as an individual and his visit had no political agenda, noting that Gaza is open to anyone.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu-Zuhri said no arrangements had been made for him to meet any of the movement’s leaders.
