Russia to use Iranian airspace to bomb Syria

December 3, 2015 at 2:49 pm

Iran’s Parliamentary Speaker Ali Larijani said yesterday that Russia does not need prior agreement to use Iranian airspace to bomb sites in Syria.

When asked why Iran has remained silent regarding Russia’s use of the Caspian Sea for military purposes, Larijani told Anadolu news agency: “We do not need such an agreement, and Iran supports the Russian position on the fight against terrorism and will continue to assist Moscow.”

“If Western countries took the same position as Russia in the fight against [Daesh], the Al-Nusra Front and other terrorist groups, we would not face these problems today and we stress on our political and military support for Moscow in this regard,” he added.

Larijani denounced claims that Russia purchased oil from Daesh as “highly unlikely and improbable”.

“I have not seen anywhere any report verifying this claim independently; these claims are at best unrealistic, and figment of the imagination of those behind the claim,” he added.
