There has been a “sharp reduction” in foreign aid to the Palestinian Authority, the prime minister revealed on Monday. Rami Hamdallah said that the amount of aid has gone down by 43 per cent since 2011, reported Anadolu.
Speaking on the fringe of a visit to the Palestinian private sector, Hamdallah noted that from the beginning of 2015 until October, the PA received $685.4 million, which was 27 per cent down on the same period last year. The PA has, he explained, imposed austerity measures and increased taxes in order to meet its financial commitments.
According to PA Financial Minister Shukri Bishara, said Anadolu, the previously expected foreign assistance to the authority for this year was $800 million. A PA spokesman said last year that foreign aid started to reduce when Palestine was granted the status of a non-member state at the UN.
