PA meetings with Israel are treacherous stab, says PFLP

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) has described the meetings of Palestinian Authority officials with the Israelis as a “treacherous stab” in the back of the Palestinian people, Quds Press reported on Monday.

In a statement, the PFLP called for the PA to stop the “absurd” and “harmful” meetings with the “Israeli occupation” as such meetings “offend the resistance and sacrifices of the Palestinians.” The continuation of such meetings, the PFLP added, is a “breach of Palestinian national unity and the latest Palestinian Central Council decision.”

Although the PFLP noted that the PA’s meetings with the Israelis improved its image in the eyes of some, the revolutionary group still called for general support for, and an escalation of, the latest intifada.

Earlier this week, the Israeli media revealed that the government had rejected a PA proposal to conduct secret talks about future borders. The PA’s chief negotiator, Saeb Erekat, then repeated that he had conducted direct talks with Israeli officials in July and August in Amman and Cairo regarding the resumption of the stalled peace process.

Israeli Radio reported on Sunday that the proposal from the PA for talks came as part of an effort to crack down on the intifada — on Israel’s behalf — in return for talking about the so-called “final status” issues.
