The foreign ministry in Cairo announced on Friday that it is investigating claims that 21 Egyptian citizens have been kidnapped in Libya, Almesryoon.com has reported. The victims, it is said, are all from Al-Minya and were working in Libya. A list of their names was supplied by the families and published by the media.
A spokesman for the foreign ministry, Ahmed Abu Zeid, said that the Egyptian Ambassador to Libya, Mohamed Abu Baker, who is working from Cairo, has made contact with official and non-official sources to verify the kidnapping claim. Abu-Zeid called on the media and families of the alleged victims to be cautious when dealing with unverified information regarding such crimes. He noted that his ministry is sparing no expense in efforts to secure the return of any Egyptian citizen to the country.
In February last year, Daesh released a video showing the execution of 21 Egyptian Copts one month after they were kidnapped in Libya.
