An estimated 184 Palestinian refugees including 21 children have died inside Yarmouk refugee camp in Syria as a result of the regime’s blockade and lack of medical care, a new report revealed.
The report prepared by the National Working Group for Palestinians in Syria said Tuesday that the victims include 123 females and 61 males.
According to the report: “Food, medicine and baby milk have ran out from the camp which is reflected on the citizens physical and psychological well being.”
“The blockade, which has been imposed by the regime army and the Popular Front on Yarmouk refugee camp for 919 days in a row,…has forced people to stand in long lines in order to obtain small amounts of food and to search garbage containers for leftovers to ensure the continuation of their lives, while some parents preferred death to stay alive while they cannot afford to provide food for their young children,” the Group’s report said.
Several Syrian cities have been placed under siege by regime forces, leading to residents dying from starvation and a lack of medicine.
The National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces appealed to the United Nations Security Council to take action to break the sieges placed on cities across Syria.
The United Nations was able to deliver food aid last week to the Syrian city of Madaya, which is besieged by the regime’s army and its allied militias.
