Chief of the Palestinian Authority (PA) security intelligence Majed Faraj revealed on Tuesday that his services stopped 200 potential attacks against Israeli targets during the current intifada which started in October 2015, Quds Press reported.
In an interview with Defence News, Faraj described the security cooperation between the PA and Israel as a “bridge that should be connected between the two sides until the situation is ok for the politicians to return to serious negotiations.”
He stressed on the importance of the security cooperation, saying: “Violence and terrorism will not make the Palestinians closer to achieving their goals.”
Faraj said: “Our services arrested 100 Palestinians since October, who planned to carry out attacks against Israeli targets, and they confiscated weapons from some of them. We were able to undermine 200 potential attacks during the same period.”
“The PA worked with Israel and the US and other parties side by side in order to prevent the collapse of the PA.”
He also warned that Daesh may fill the void should the PA collapse, adding that Daesh’s ideology already exists in the minds of many Palestinians. “Some Palestinians claim that Daesh and Al-Qaeda are marginal organisations, but if they decided to fight Israel, they would find lots of supporters,” he said.
