Italian defence minister warns about military action in Libya

Italian Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti warned about close international military action in Libya, the Anadolu Agency reported today.

Pinotti said: “Efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis must be coordinated internationally,” warning that “it is impossible for the international intervention to wait until the upcoming spring.”

“We cannot imagine waiting until spring while the situation in Libya is still frozen,” she said. “In the last month, we have been working more closely with the Americans, Brits and French.”

She pointed out that her country is not ready for unilateral action, saying: “We all agree that we must avoid uncoordinated actions which did not give good results in the past.”

“We do not have to give pretext for the Jihadists propaganda which sees that any Western interference as an invasion.”

In addition, she warned that the latest Daesh defeats in Iraq may push them to open a new front in Libya.
