PA accuses Netanyahu of undermining peace process

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry yesterday accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of undermining efforts to revive “serious negotiations” leading to ending the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the Anadolu Agency reported.

In a statement, the ministry said: “Seven years have passed since Netanyahu became head of the Israeli government. He has stopped none of the efforts to undermine international efforts to revive serious negotiations to end the conflict.”

The statement continued: “Netanyahu continued sticking to his own policy which aims to extend the conflict, at the same time he assaults the international voices calling for ending the occupation.”

In addition, the statement stressed that Netanyahu undermined all mechanisms to revive talks which had been proposed by the international community and the International Quartet.

“Seven years passed and Netanyahu has been stealing lands, expanding settlements, changing the status quo and Judaising the land of the future state of Palestine,” the statement added.

Commenting on the French ultimatum regarding the resumption of talks, Netanyahu said yesterday that he was ready to start unconditional talks with the Palestinian Authority.

The French foreign minister said on Friday that his country is adopting a proposal of holding an international conference to revive Palestinian-Israeli talks.

Laurent Fabius said that if the French initiative did not break the negotiations deadlock, Paris would recognise a Palestinian state.
