General Federation of Arab Journalists yesterday called for all those interested in journalism and human rights to move to save the life of Palestinian hunger-striking journalist Muhammad Al-Qeeq, the Anadolu Agency reported.
Al-Qeeq has been on hunger strike against his administrative detention for 86 days.
According to a statement, “the General Federation of Arab Journalists is supporting the Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate and is calling for protests on Thursday at 11am (Cairo Time) and sending letters to international governments and parliaments to exert efforts to save Al-Qeeq’s life.”
The statement noted that Al-Qeeq is facing the danger of death at any moment, while the Israeli occupation is refusing to meet his right to be freed or allow him to be treated in a Palestinian hospital in the occupied West Bank.
Meanwhile, Head of the Federation Hatem Zakaria told Anadolu that the Israeli occupation has been “committing a crime” against Al-Qeeq, describing what is happening to him as “a crime against humanity”. He called for the Israeli occupation to be prosecuted before the ICC.
Al-Qeeq was arrested from his home in Ramallah on 21 November 2015, and held on administrative detention on 25 November for “inciting violence”. He started his hunger strike immediately after he was held.
