Daesh has abducted over 5,500 Iraqi women and sold them in slavery markets in the Syrian city of Raqqa, Chairman of Iraqi Parliamentary Human Rights Committee Arshad Salehi revealed on Monday.
Salehi, who is also president of the Iraqi Turkmen Front, told reporters that statistics reveal that nearly 5,000 Yazidi women and 500 Turkmen women have been abducted by the group.
“Some of the women were sold a few days ago in a slavery market in the Syrian city of Raqqa,” he said, adding that this is the first time the parliament has announced the number of abducted Turkmen woman due to tribal traditions.
Salehi called during the press conference for the restructuring of the ministry of women or for a body concerned with women’s affairs to be formed.
