Hundreds of Palestinians marched across the West Bank and the Gaza Strip on Sunday to commemorate Palestinian Prisoners’ Day marked on 17 April.
In Gaza, the Prisoners’ Committee for National and Islamic forces organised a rally where the participants held photographs of a number of Palestinian prisoners.
Khaled al-Batsh, a leader of Islamic Jihad, said: “We stand today to renew our commitment to secure the release of the Palestinian prisoners from the Israeli jails.”
Khalil Al- Hayyeh, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, said the prisoners cause is on the daily agenda of the various Palestinian factions.
Hundreds of people, including families of prisoners and political leaders, also marched in the West Bank city of Ramallah holding photographs of prisoners and Palestinian flags.
Israel currently detains 7,000 Palestinians, 700 of them under administrative detention. Six administrative detainees are children.
