Houthis postpone peace talks

April 25, 2016 at 12:01 pm

The evening session of the Yemeni peace talks were postponed yesterday on the request of the Houthis and former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, the Anadolu Agency reported sources saying.

“The rebel’s delegation asked, during the morning session which witnessed altercations, to postpone the afternoon session to 7pm Kuwait time,” the sources said.

According to the sources, the rebels said they were waiting for instructions from their leaders in Yemen on how to proceed with the UN- brokered talks.

The sources said the rebels refused to start discussing the agenda saying they were “awaiting instructions from the senior leadership”.

“They only came to stop the Arab alliance strikes and they are not authorised to engage in any dialogue at the moment.”

According to the sources, the government delegation has affirmed “its commitment to finding a peaceful solution for the crisis and stopping the hostilities.”

The government delegation has provided the United Nations with a list of 127 violations committed by Houthi and Saleh forces.
