Egypt allows cement to enter Gaza

May 12, 2016 at 9:50 am

Egyptian authorities allowed the entry of small amounts of cement into the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing yesterday, a source at the Border and Crossing Authority in Gaza said.

Eight trucks loaded with cement entered Gaza yesterday, with more trucks expected to enter today, sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.

Egypt opened the Rafah border crossing yesterday to allow humanitarian cases to travel from the Israeli-blockaded enclave into Egypt. The border is set to be opened for only two days.

On 3 April, Israel banned cement entry the Strip for private projects under the pretext that it may be used by Hamas for “military purposes”. The movement denied the claims.
