Assad vows to continue war on terror

Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad yesterday vowed to continue what he called his country’s war on terrorism.

“Syria faces economic terrorism, car bombs, massacres and missiles,” Assad said in a speech to parliament.

“The fight against terrorism is continuing not because we love wars, but because the bloodshed will not end until we uproot terrorism wherever it exists and whatever mask it wears.”

“As we liberated Palmyra and before it many areas, we will liberate every inch of Syria from their hands. Our only option is victory, otherwise Syria will not continue,” he added.

The Syrian president slammed the Geneva peace talks which broke down in April, saying there were no real talks.

“We went to Geneva and met only with the mediator and his team. We proposed a framework of principles for the dialogue but have not received an answer to date.”

He reiterated his claim that others are targeting Syria. “We are seeing international conflicts that produced regional conflicts between countries seeking to preserve their sovereignty and independence and countries attempting to serve the interests of others even at the expense of their own people.”
