Palestinians call on Cairo to permanently open Rafah crossing

June 9, 2016 at 10:14 am

The Palestinian interior ministry yesterday called on the Egyptian authorities to open the Rafah crossing permanently in order to facilitate travel for 28,000 Gazans who urgently need to leave the coastal enclave, Quds Press reported.

In a statement, ministry spokesperson Iyad Al-Bozoum said that more than 3,000 Gazans had left Gaza when the crossing was opened for four days earlier this month.

He thanked Egypt for opening the crossing, noting that it gave hundreds of people the opportunity to join their families, go back to work, universities and access the medical treatment they needed.

However, there are still 28,000 Gazans who are in urgent need to travel, he said.
