An administrative court in Egypt has decided to halt a lawsuit filed by the lawyer Sami Sabri to strip Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi and nine other opposition members of their Egyptian nationality.
Sabri said that the defendants in question incited violence and tried to destabilise Egypt but the court ruled that there is insufficient evidence to strip them of their nationalities and that the constitution safeguards them against this.
A report by the State Commissioner’s Authority at the Egyptian Council of State had previously revealed flaws in the lawsuit and said that if it were to be accepted this would set a dangerous precedent against people’s fundamental rights.
