Twenty-six-year-old Nour Jabr has taken the traditional Palestinian embroidery and revamped it to add a modern twist.
As she sews her designs in Gaza, Nour doesn’t use fabric and furniture, choosing to show of her designs on wood.
Getting her idea off the ground wasn’t easy, not least because sowing through wood takes a lot of strength and a very good needle.
Nour tried a number of processes before you found a way to puncture the wood pieces to allow the threads to pass through and make her handicrafts.
Although the products take longer to produce, they add variety in terms of the colours of the wood used and the thread. Nour has produced several wall clocks, decorations, key rings, book covers and small pieces for home and personal use.
