Egyptian security forces arrested the daughter of the Chairman of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, and her husband on charges of joining the Muslim Brotherhood, their lawyer said.
Ahmad Abou El-Ela Maadi said the couple was arrested on 23 June near Sahel Al-Shamali on Egypt’s northern coast, while on Eid holiday.
The court yesterday ordered the couple to be detained for 15 days pending an investigation.
A statement said the couple is accused of being “members of an illegal organisation”, in reference to the Muslim Brotherhood, and for “planning terrorist action against the security of public institutions”.
