Somalia: US troops call in air strikes against Al-Shabaab

August 18, 2017 at 1:47 pm

The United States called in air strikes against Al-Shabaab in Somalia, Garowe reported yesterday.

Three air strikes were called in according to the US Department of Defence, killing seven Al-Shabaab fighters. The precision attack was executed in Jilib, 200 miles from the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

Al-Shabaab, which pledged allegiance to Al-Qaeda in 2012, has attracted an increase in US drone strikes and military activity. Earlier this year, American President Donald Trump incorporated new rules to determine parts of Somalia as temporary battlefields allowing the US to launch six-month wars without congressional approval or oversight.
