Morocco official denies official relations with Israel

November 3, 2017 at 9:25 am

Morocco yesterday denied having official ties with Israel after Israeli nationals took part in cultural and economic events in the country.

“I confirm today that Morocco has no official relations with the Zionist entity,” government spokesman, Mustapha El Khalfi, Thursday at a press conference in the capital Rabat.

The remarks come in response to a question about the government’s responsibility for the participation of Israelis in cultural and economic events in the country.

“This is the official position of Morocco. This is a definite position for our country,” El Khalfi said. “You should ask the organisers of those events, because each case has its own answers.”

Moroccan activists who oppose normalising relations with Israel routinely monitor what they see as the “normalisation of violations” by unofficial cultural and economic institutions in the Kingdom.
