Israel is exerting efforts to erase “highly classified” security information put online by Israeli scientists working in state institutions, the Anadolu Agency reported Israeli media saying yesterday.
According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the publication of this information “shocked” the Israeli security agencies who shifted blame onto one another.
The Israeli newspaper described the information as “top secret”, noting that the Israeli authorities are trying to erase any trace of the information but said that the information cannot be fully deleted as it has been republished numerous times.
Haaretz said that Israel had exerted a “great” and “consistent” effort to hide the information, without giving any hint about what information has been published.
The newspaper noted that the information was a result of scientific activity carried out by a state institution where the researchers obtained permission to publish it from the director of the defence ministry several years ago.
It said that the scientists continued their work in the project and published its results without getting additional permissions from the current director.
