US sentences Jordanian to 10 years over Daesh links

A US federal court on Monday sentenced a young man from New Jersey to ten years in prison after he admitted to have travelled to Jordan to join a terrorist organisation and planning attacks in its name, federal prosecutors said.

The Justice Department said District Judge Susan Wigenton sentenced 23-year-old Nader Saadeh to ten years in jail.

Saadeh will be under surveillance for life by the federal authorities after his release.

The dual national was arrested in 2015 along with four others and was charged with conspiring to support Daesh. The other defendants include his older brother, Alaa who pleaded guilty to conspiring to support Daesh.

Alaa was sentenced to 15 years in prison in May 2016.

Prosecutors said that Nader travelled to Jordan in May 2015 in order to join Daesh, but was arrested by authorities there. He admitted to knowledge that two of the defendants had planned to use homemade explosives against targets in New York City.
