The Argentinian newspaper Clarin has revealed that the country’s judicial investigator asked the Russian authorities to arrest and hand over the Iranian Supreme Leader’s Senior Adviser for International Affairs, Quds Net News has reported. Ali Akbar Velayati arrived in Moscow on Wednesday for a three-day visit to meet senior Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin.
Velayati is accused by Argentina of being involved in a bomb attack on the Jewish Cultural Centre in Buenos Aires in 1994, when he was Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic. Eighty-five people were killed in the bombing; more than 200 others were wounded.
Argentina’s intelligence agency declared that, although Lebanon’s Hezbollah was behind the attack, it was planned by Iran.
